Chapter 1:

She knew that it was over. There was no other choice for sure. The red glow filled their brains and bodies with a terror unknown till then. This was the final stretch and there was only one way out."Run! Now!" her words were met with confused and scared stares but within a few seconds she had jumped out.The biting air and the unending fall resounded his shout. That was the last time she had seen him....

"Avi!" she gasped, the word her last gulp of air and sat up bolt right. Her body shivered at the flashes she saw and her clothes were drenched with sweat. With a string of cuss words , she got down from the cot and got on with her day. "Brute! Caes! Morning's here!" The names in mention were her family and her day started with them always. Two bounding fur balls came from the porch and pranced around to get the attention of their best friend. "Chillax Brute! You're quite hyped up today huh? Whats up Caes? Want some pops you guys ryt? Here you go!" two bowls of Pedigree were wiped clean in ultraspeed and she laughed her way to get ready."Mondays are the best " she said aloud " After the stretchy weekend back to work. Can you imagine how it would be to have no work one day? Just relax? How boring na? " she looked at Caes who turned away at the question. "Yeah yeah, I know i know, You love weekends right lazy bums?" she winked and went to take her shower.

Suddenly the phone rang. "Hello?" she was getting late and a random call was the last thing she needed. "Shakti?" the other boomed with that single word. Her world came spinning in front of her eyes when she recognised the trouble coming her way now.

Chapter 2:

"Shakti? Is that you? Hello..Are you there...?..". "What do you want?" she spelled coldly. How did you get this number would have been her first question but she knew the man better. Rajnath Saxena was quite above petty jobs like searching for a number. His wish was the command to a mass of people and he would have reached her in a jiffy . Infact she was surprised that she had evaded him for so long. Clutching the table to steady herself she waited for a reply. The silence on the other end was chilling and Shakti was starting to lose her cool. "I am busy right now, to get in touch with me again please contact my office number. Or better yet dont contact me...!" she bit out, slamming the phone down. Why did it happen always? Whenever she thought that she was moving on the past came right back on her face. "No! Not this time! You wont ruin it this time...I wont let you!" she promised to the empty room, "I will not break now Mr Rajnath Saxena! No one can affect me...Neither you..nor him!" she asserted vehemently and got ready to face her day with extra determination than usual. "Woof woof woof!" Brute bounded back near her as she started out of home. "Shut up!" she yelled and saw that the dog whined with a hurt expression. She rubbed her face with a hand and knelt down " Am sorry jaan. Bad day you know?" she ruffled the silky coat while the dog licked her hand affectionately. Climbing on her bike she gave a last glance to the home she had loved for so long. "Dont let them spoil this please. Not now " she sent a silent prayer and left to face the rest of the day at her favourite place, Topaz International, her office which had become her second home.

Chapter 3:
Avinash turned to the window. He stared across the street, at a store that sold handmade furniture. A man and a woman stood at the display window there, admiring a wide bureau decorated with intricate designs. Avinash watched them, not really seeing them, until they disappeared inside. She would have loved that, he mused.

Then, rather abruptly, he turned back and went down to the entrance of Topaz International . Two determined minutes later, he reached the glass-fronted door. He took the handle and pulled it open.

The scent of the air hit him first-floral, sweet but not too sweet. An undertone of tartness. It didn't smell like Shakti, exactly. But it reminded him of her. Sweet and just a little spicy. And then he saw her. Same old volcano girl, as he called her. jumping down her sleek bike and talking to herself.

He'd barely started to smile at the thought when he realized she'd trip and fall. He hurried out and caught her, the buzzing sensation in his hands still alive at her touch. Wearing a sober and demure white salwar was not her style, but he sensed that she had changed more than her style from the past. Jerking back to the moment he saw that she was grumbling to herself "Kuch toh theek hua.." he smirked. Just like Shakti to say the weirdest things at the weirdest circumstances. She looked up with her best smile to thank him and saw him just as he spotted her.

Chapter 4:

Shakti reached the office late for the first time and cursed her day while searching for a parking space. Finally she parked her bike in a corner and rushed into the building, hoping that the day didnt get worse. Checking if she brought all her files she hardly noticed the person coming towards her. The sudden collission sent her papers flying and her skidding down. All of a sudden a pair of arms held her steady and Shakti realised that she was not falling anymore. "Chalo, kuch to theek hua" she murmured and looked up to apologise to the person whom she dashed into. "Thankyou...." she started but gasped suddenly on seeing the eyes searching her face. Those eyes reflected her crashing world rapidly and Shakti suddenly felt breathless. "No! Never!..."she gasped and jumped far from those wretched arms. The man standing in front of her cringed at her words but didnt respond. "This is a nightmare Shakti. You are going to wake up now and all of this will disappear" she mentally soothed her thudding heart. But her racing brain confirmed that it was reality. It was indeed him and he was just a few inches away from her. "He will not spare you now you fool! You are ruined again. Forever!" her conscience warned her "Shut up!" she hissed attracting the man to raise an eyebrow. "Me? What .."...he started . "No! Not you! " she said, her voice peaky with tension " I mean...I didnt ...What are you....How...Par...Hell!" she yelled the last word and ran into her her office leaving behind a smirking spectator. "Damn this luck! What side of the bed did I get up today from? How can EVERYTHING go wrong on the same day dude?! "

...rest to be continued ...
